This film tells the story of a high school student named Teguh Prakasa who is trapped in a situation full of pressure and fear. In the middle of a silent exam, Teguh Prakasa looks anxious and keeps erasing and changing his answers, showing his uncertainty and lack of confidence. However, as the exam continues, Teguh Prakasa writes the answers on pieces of paper tucked into his socks, takes the answers to the toilet and gives the paper to a naughty student named Bagas, through the gap in the toilet door. My name is Abu Umar Sidik, I was born in Sukabumi on June 18, 2007. I was born into an ordinary middle I was born to an ordinary lower-middle economic family who was born by a mother and guided by a father who worked as an entrepreneur in a small village in West Java. The first time I
interested in cinema began in 2019, when I was invited by my brother to go to the city and watch a movie in the theater for the first time. In high school, I spent most of my time in NVD Production extracurriculars, to learn about filmmaking from pre-production, production, to post-production theoretically and practically. both theoretically and practically. My interest in film inspired me to become a filmmaker who focuses on novelty and and unique creativity.
As a director, I have always believed that every story has the power to
open our eyes and hearts to the complexities of life. Two Shadow Sides is a
deep exploration of morality, social pressure, and human dynamics, packaged
in a simple yet meaningful narrative.
The film tells the story of a high school student who is intelligent but considered
nerdy by his
neighborhood. When he decides to give the answers to a naughty student on an exam, his actions trigger a series of consequences that not only change his life, but
also affect his soul. Through this story, I want to invite the audience to
question: what really drives a person to do a certain action?
Is it pure good intention, pressure, or perhaps a need to feel accepted?
As a director, my main focus in this film is to explore the layers of emotion behind
every action. There are no completely "good" or "bad" characters in the real world, and Two Shadow Sides reflects that reality. I want to highlight that behind every decision taken, there is always a complex reason that is often connected to the human need to survive, be accepted, or even just find meaning in their lives.
Visually, I use a lot of leading lines to bring the audience directly to the core of the story and the emotions of each scene. These lines will be a guide that focuses the audience's attention on the characters and their conflicts, while representing life choices that seem to limit, direct, or even force someone to make certain decisions. This technique will also strengthen the deep impression of the moral path that the main character must take, whether he chooses the right path or gives in to the pressures around him.
Audio-wise, my approach is to utilize original sounds and sound effects created using foley techniques without additional music or background sound at the core of the short film.
Every sound from whispers in the exam room, the clink of pencils on paper, to heavy breathing will be designed to strengthen the emotions and atmosphere. By utilizing silence and natural sounds, I wanted to create a more intimate and realistic experience, making the audience feel like they are truly present in the world of the characters.
As a short filmmaker, I see Two Sides Of The Shadow not only as a story, but also as a mirror that reflects the dilemmas we face in our daily lives. I hope that this film will not only entertain, but also provoke
thought and open up a space for conversation about the importance of understanding the reasons behind
a person's actions before passing judgment.
With Two Sides Of The Shadow, I want to show that behind every action, no matter how small, there is a story that needs to be heard. This is a short film about people, their decisions,
and the shadows that follow their every step.
