Director Statement

In “Two Suns in the Sunset,” my goal was to explore human relationships, the threat of nuclear war, and the acceptance of death. Through this film, I aimed not only to challenge myself and my team but also the audience. I intended to deliver a beautiful and fragile drama which resembles a framed picture of our future.

The inspiration for this project struck me when I watched a speech by Putin, where he boasted about the minimal time it would take to launch nuclear missiles at various cities worldwide. Considering the rapid flow of information through technology, I pondered whom I would talk to and what I would say in those precious moments before the end. While this thought stuck in my head, I realized that my parents, in their twenties, protested against nuclear weapons, and more than thirty years later, now I’m of a similar age, the topic is more relevant than it has been before.

The central theme of “Two Suns in the Sunset” revolves around family. The film tells the story of two estranged brothers who find themselves in Berlin when they receive news of an incoming nuclear missile. With only 10 minutes left to live, they are compelled to face each other and expose the long-held secrets that have plagued their relationship. The film explores whether their bond can be mended in the face of this imminent and final moment.

Through this film, My goal was to provoke an emotional response from the audience and encourage introspection about the world we live in, the fragility of our families, personal relationships, the weight of untold secrets, and the responsibilities we bear in global conflicts. I hope these thoughts will linger long after the credits roll.

I firmly believe that cinema has the power to stimulate contemplation and ignite meaningful conversations. However, as filmmakers, we should not impose our political agendas on the viewers. Instead, we should leave them with open-ended questions that encourage critical thinking.
Thank you for taking the time to read this statement.
