Director Biography - Louis Hudson

Louis Hudson is an award-winning freelance animator and director, otherwise known as Dice Productions based in Birmingham, U.K.

Louis’ work is known for it’s absurd character-led humour. Louis slips between different 2D animation techniques, visual effects, and live action, often blurring the boundaries between them.

He has created work for Channel 4, Nickelodeon, BBC, UK Film Council, Factory Creates and Oxfam. His films have won awards and screened at dozens of film festivals including: Encounters, Annecy, Edinburgh, Pictoplasma, Stuttgart, LIAF, Animation Block Party and Hollyshorts.

Director Statement

Twins balances a mixture of graphic scenes with naive comedic charm. This is achieved with energetic hand drawn animation using a bold, simplified design and colour palette.

The footage was post-processed as offset CMYK print to imitate a wonky cartoonish charm inspired by cheaply made children's comics such as the Beano. This method is also used to bring the live action narrator awkwardly into the world of people he is impishly interfering with.

The rounded square format emphasises the claustrophobic environment of not just the twins but also the parents. Fitted into a widescreen viewing format the squares also convey the idea of comic book panels.
