Twenty-One Twelve: a human powered adventure across Australia
In 2019, in pursuit of a life-long dream, American ultrarunner, Katie Visco, sets off on foot across Australia with her husband, Henley Phillips, as support on a bicycle. Starting out on the coast in Darwin, Northern Territory, the couple runs and bicycles 2,112 miles through some of the most formidable and harsh environments on the planet to reach the coast in Adelaide, South Australia. What begins as a way for Visco to push her own limits ultimately becomes a story of togetherness as the two support each other through thick and thin, sand and wind, flies and heat under the unrelenting Outback sun. The journey is one that highlights the absolute best of the human spirit.

Katie Visco, who has been called a "bubbly and offbeat running, biking, soup-making, people-loving, community-building exclamation mark," is an accomplished female adventurer, entrepreneur, community-builder, coach, and speaker. She has spent years taking on logistically complex and also simple out-your-front-door expeditions. At age 23, Katie was the youngest woman to run across America. Her mission was to inspire as many people as possible to follow their passions, and she spoke with more than 200 audiences along the way to encourage people to do just that while also raising funds for Girls on the Run. Ten years later, in 2019, she ran across the brutal continent of Australia with only her husband on a bicycle for support to show the importance of living your dreams and doing hard things simply because you want to. Ultimately, Katie’s adventures are an invitation to be brave and take action on the things you feel most deeply called to do. Katie also has 10+ years of experience as a coach, community-builder, and entrepreneur. She is currently the proud owner and soup maestra behind Hot Love Soup, a soup and bone broth delivery company, and Good Juju Energy Balls. Henley Phillips would describe himself as someone who experiences life most fully when challenging himself in the outdoors. After returning home to Texas from almost three years in Central America as a Peace Corps volunteer, he met Katie through shared running circles. The next year Henley set out from Guatemala City on his bicycle with the intention of cycling Central America, South America and parts beyond. Three short weeks later, his bike was stolen in the middle of the night leaving him stranded in the middle of a soccer field. Things worked out, though, and after some work as a backpacking guide for Quetzaltrekkers, Henley returned once again to the U.S.A. to hike the Pacific Crest Trail in 2014 to raise money for this same organization. His hike of the PCT inspired him to spend the next three years working with teenage boys as a wilderness therapy field lead in the deserts and mountains of Utah, a place he will always love. Henley teaches High School Spanish in Tucson, Arizona. You can follow Henley on Instagram @henley.phillips.
