True Peoples

The heroes of the film, Łukasz and Luiza, Danka and Lukas, as well as Siwy, are individuals who have chosen to give up the comforts of the developed world. They refuse to accept the veil of silence that surrounds the most fundamental issues of social life – the increasing consumption or the preservation of natural forests. Their lives represent a return to simplicity, a lack of intermediation.

Luiza and Łukasz have abandoned the city and settled in an old cabin atop a mountain. Siwy, an activist from the Carpathian Wilderness Initiative, fights to preserve the remnants of natural forest in the Carpathian Primeval Forest. Danka and Lukas create theatrical art with the aim of initiating conversations about intercultural relationships.

"True Peoples" is an attempt to confront the question of the world's condition. However, it is not a question of whether we have an ecological crisis or if we consume too much – most people are aware of that to some extent. The question pertains to human beings' ability to transcend their passivity, to consolidate their inner strength to overcome inertia. It is not a film about well-known mainstream figures, but about people who, in the deep provinces, attempt to grapple with these issues.

Director Statement

In documentary films, he strives to go beyond specific events he observes, seeking more universal values in them. Among the documentaries he usually travels with to art cinemas, he has made "Way to Bangladesh" - a film about a photographer who, tired of the constant rat race, decides to go to the jungle on the eastern fringes of Bangladesh to see how tribal communities live. He has also made "Meanwhile," which tells the story of the ancient European pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. On his journey through Portugal, he talks to people who leave their lives behind for a few weeks and embark on the journey.
