Manuel Alejandro Vargas is an award-winning filmmaker and director from Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. Over the past six years, he's developed his craft working on a wide variety of sets that include both narrative and feature length films, some of which include his award winning drama short 'Argumento' (2019)- recorded as one continuous take. in addition to 'Ghost'- a five minute short music video recorded on 16mm film. And recently his short comedy/drama called 'Tribe: The Untold Story of the Making of Vice Cops' (2020) has won several awards that have been featured in multiple countries around the world.
"Tribe: The Untold Story of the Making of Vice cops" is a 9 minute short comedy film that explores and satirizes young filmmakers and the beginning stages of their writing process and the crazy results of the final product. The film its structured in an anthology style format. Divided in two segments. The story of the two young writers first day working on their script and the preview to the finished film they made together.
I wanted to try completely different filmmaking styles for each segment. The first haft was shot on digital and has a more modern and grounded approach while the second haft was shot on 16mm film and it is inspired by 1980s cop films and Grindhouse films.
