Trevor Choi was born in Montreal, Canada. He studied Science at the University of Waterloo and is currently a Freelance Filmmaker and Screenwriter.
Trevor Choi returned to Hong Kong in 2018 to attend a directing course organized by the Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild. Choi has directed several shorts, including phone made short film Nine Pound Hammer (2020) and web series An Actor Prepares to Starve (2021). His short film Ouroborus (2018) was shortlisted in the competitions of multiple film festivals, including the 42nd Asian American International Film Festival, it was also selected to represent Hong Kong in the Clermont Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2020. He was the Director/Producer/Co-founder of YouTube Channel "16 by 9".
He co-directed and produced his first feature film "Fresh Off Markham", which premiered at the 48th Hong Kong International Film Festival and was nominated the Firebird Award. “Smashing Frank” is his solo directed feature film debut.
