Film director and scriptwriter Amil Mamibeyli ( Amil Amal) was born in 1989 in Lachin, Azerbaijan. He earned a BA in directing from the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, and MA from VGIK Russian State Institute of Cinematography. He started his filmmaking career in 2010 and worked at the TV, and Bakufilm Studio as well as the United Nations’ Azerbaijani office as a freelance videographer. An award-winning director, he has made several nationally and internationally acclaimed short fictions and documentaries such as “The resident of the oil city” (2011), “Black ribbon” (2015), “Final choice” (2017), and “Tremble” (2021), İn the corridor (2021)
Amil is also an amateur photographer. In 2019, he published a book of minimalist and cinematic poems.
In 1992, when I was 3 years old, my family and I became refugees from Lachin city in Azerbaijan, where I was born. We have been living in Baku as refugees for 29 years. The city where I was born was liberated last year. A lot has changed in these 29 years. I studied directing in Baku and Moscow. As I grew older, I came to understand more and more what I experienced as a child. But no matter how hard I tried, I never grew up hostile. Quite the opposite. I realized that human values, humanism and peace will always prevail. And I learned all this through art and cinema. So far, I have made 5 short films. Also, as a young poet, I published a book of minimalist poems. I can also express my thoughts through literature. But there are expressions that make you feel that you can only do this with cinema. The world I want to see and the expressions and messages I want to say will hopefully be reflected in my films. Just like I tried to do in my latest short film, Tremble.
