Trauma Culture Official Video

Trauma Culture is the biggest & boldest release yet for Hounds., the left-of-center psych-pop duo. The new age trip-hop duo are back with a vulnerable music video about personal struggles with c-PTSD & a culture setup to fail. Trauma Culture is a story of escaping generational trauma, fear and confrontation, and finding your power and dancing in it. Hounds. is made up of established producer Berzle (Broods, Middle Kids, & Galant) & film designer Hall, they take his synthy hooks & risky musicality on her dark, cinematic path. Together, raw & dynamic vocals combine with layered, grandiose sound that feels like 100 lives lived at once. The duo played all of the technical roles in this project, and this was a very important project for female strength and empowerment, being written, directed, produced by, and starring a strong woman.

Director Biography - Marly Hall

Marly Hall is making her Directorial debut on Hounds. - Trauma Culture music video after years of working behind the scenes of television, movies, and in theatre. Hall graduated from USC with a BFA in theatre design, emphasizing in Costume Design and has worked as a costume designer for close to 12 years and worked on some of your favorite shows like Nailed It, Ru Pauls Drag Race All Stars, and Wipe Out. After all of this time of telling other people’s stories, Hall and her longterm partner and love Kyle Berzle created this unique opportunity for her to tell her own story, from the music, to the writing, casting, producing, art, costume design, and performance, in addition to directing. Hall’s deep connection to character that she nurtured through costume design, and her own personal life experience in the world give her immense empathy and translate deeply on screen through the characters she creates. Hall’s main goals as an artist and now director are to provide opportunities to discuss important and often heavily stigmatized topics that women experience daily, like trauma, ptsd, abuse, fear, anxiety and empowerment. She uses very bold, dramatic and powerful images to collect an overall emotion that bursts off the screen immediately - something that draws you in and sucks you right into the moment so you’re no longer a witness, you’re a passenger. Hall herself is a survivor and lives with c-pstd and daily mental health struggles and believes that through these conversations we are able to liberate ourselves from this traumatic world that we operate in daily.

Director Statement

This project has led me towards a deep amount of healing that I did not know possible. A way of digesting my own life experiences and the contrasting feelings I've always had that I, like all women, am magical. I get it now. I feel different. I sincerely hope that watching this music video shows the viewer something about their life and past that may lead them closer to healing, as well.
