Our commitment to watching every film and providing our review notes on Facebook is something frankly EVERY FESTIVAL should do if they're accepting a submission fee.

Our reach and engagements have exploded on Facebook. Our viewership is up for our Friday night TV show in NYC, and we streamed the entire event live on our new YouTube channel with 80 unique attendees (which isn't bad for a channel that was set up one week prior to the festival). You see we're all about the data, and we notice everything. Which is this festival is shaping up to be even bigger, and better.

We're starting to add original content, script contests, readings here in NYC, filmmaker spotlights and more.

The 4th Transparent Film Festival will take place live Thursday Night May 12th and Friday Night May 13th at the Theater Under St. Marks in New York City's funky & fun East Village.

As with everything during the pandemic, we have to be ready for anything.

If a filmmaker requests to know why they were accepted or rejected, it shouldn't be too hard to provide a reason. That is what makes us different than most festivals, and why our first year was a HUGE success. The past two seasons, we screened every frame of every film and returned our detailed notes. Please see our screening receipts at http://Facebook.com/transparentfilmfestival.

We're not a money making outfit with 38 categories, with ridiculous fees and monthly "film awards" that no one attends. We do this once a year and have a weekly cable show in Manhattan New York City every Friday night (see www.transparentfilmfestival.com), where we show clips from some of the best submissions. Our activity on Facebook speaks for itself.

Some important things you should know.

No one can "walk a friend's project in". Preference is not given to local filmmakers.

Your film will be watched, and the time your film was screened posted on Facebook at http://facebook.com/transparentfilmfestival. NO FORM LETTERS. Our ratings will be sent to every filmmaker. While we screened every frame of every film last season, we cannot guarantee to do so this year as we expect many times the amount of submissions. If your film holds our interest we will watch it until the end.

Films submitted by any friends, family members or acquaintances related to festival staff, and or judges will be referred to qualified judges without a conflict of interest.

Our goal is simply to find unknown filmmakers and help them get exposure. If we send a request for download it means we would like to spotlight a clip from your film on our cable show and possibly on our streaming channel.

Some of our celebrity judges have either an Emmy and/or a Grammy award or nomination. They will be given a small amount of films that make it through the initial screening process.

If you are tired of spending hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on submission fees, and never hearing why you’ve been rejected, please consider submitting to the first-ever Transparent Film Festival.

Due to the pandemic, there will unfortunately be no cash prizes this year as patrons and sponsors have dried up. However, we may pull out some surprises.

If there are less than 3 submissions in a category, we may at our discretion move films that are selected to a different category for competition. Further we may add any selection to another category at our discretion.

IMPORTANT:
Winning filmmakers MUST BE IN ATTENDANCE in order for their films to screen live unless selected for and competing in the Foreign Film category. This does not mean your film cannot win Best in Category. Just that it wouldn't be screened live in order to make room for other selected films, for which the filmmakers can attend.

We will provide a hi-res Laurels Image for ALL SELECTED FILMS UPON REQUEST including for films selected but that are screened online.

PLEASE READ ALL RULES AND TERMS CAREFULLY PRIOR TO SUBMITTING YOUR FILM. BY SUBMITTING YOUR FILM TO THE TRANSPARENT FILM FESTIVAL, YOU HEREBY AGREE TO THE BELOW TERMS.

The 4th Transparent Film Festival (“TFF”) will take place at The Theater Under St. Marks in New York City's funky and fun East Village. It doesn't get any better during Spring Time in New York. Although unlikely at this point, due to the Pandemic, the venue operators may at their discretion choose to reschedule or cancel the event. If this happens, any money for ticket purchases will be returned to the method of payment used.

IMPORTANT: All films selected can not be shown live due to time constraints. If your film has been selected to screen live, it may be removed from its live program if we are unable to reach you (by email, facebook, text message, phone, app, etc.), or otherwise communicate with you. We recommend following us on Facebook if possible at https://www.facebook.com/transparentfilmfestival.

REALLY IMPORTANT: BY SUBMITTING YOUR FILM TO THIS FESTIVAL YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND GRANT TRANSPARENT FILM FESTIVAL THE NON-EXCLUSIVE RIGHT TO PROMOTE YOUR FILM ON SOCIAL MEDIA (including YouTube, Instagram and Facebook). IMPORTANT ITEM 1 - We will review EVERY film. Due to the number of submissions we can no longer guarantee (as we did with the first three seasons), that we will watch every frame. We will provide our notes TO ALL FILMMAKERS along with our FilmFreeway Rating, and post a date stamped viewing receipt on our Facebook Page so you know when we viewed your submission.

IMPORTANT ITEM 2 - By approving our request for download, you consent to allowing us to promote your film on our website. We own no rights to your film. You may ask Ron have it removed at any time.

Full disclosure: I was incredibly excited to win "Best Director" for my movie Esme, My Love so I might be a little biased.

Mission of this festival is awesome. People running it clearly love movies and what they do. True celebration of independent filmmaking. Real respect for filmmakers and their work. Actual feedback on your film, every single film, from someone who knows what they're talking about. This is incredibly valuable and rare.

I think it needs to grow and wish the in-person events were bigger and longer. Would love more networking opportunities. Was disappointed that my movie was not able to play in full in front of a live audience despite winning awards.

All in all would I submit again? Absolutely! A true New York festival with a true New York vibe. And I love that.

We had a wonderful time screening The Time in Between the Seconds at the Transparent Film Festival. What an honor and surprise it was to win the award for Best Short Film. Brian and his team care deeply about independent filmmakers. We just submitted our follow-up film and have our fingers crossed. Highly recommended!

Was honored to have my film "Mina Martin" selected by the Transparent Film Festival. It was wonderful connecting with fest director Brian McLane, who was very friendly, supportive and passionate about my art. I truly appreciated how he painstakingly took the time to work with me to ensure the best outcome for my movie. Brian conducted the festival true to its name with a straightforward, timely, communicative and transparent process with plenty of individualized attention. Thanks to Brian. A great experience!

From Christopher R. Owens, President, CESO Enterprises, Inc. crowens@cesony.com:

On behalf of CESO ENTERPRISES, INC., Alyssa Dann, Chris Oledude, and all of our production participants, I would like to compliment the organizers and operators of the Transparent Film Festival. When we created our first music video (which was long enough to be a short film), we knew nothing about film festivals. With the help of FilmFreeway, we started researching. The categories were good. Everyone who contacted us on behalf of this festival was helpful. The submissions looked excellent.

It was indeed exciting to discover this new world and to be so warmly welcomed by the inhabitants!  To have GEORGE FLOYD: SAY THEIR NAMES selected for inclusion was an honor in and of itself. We were happy to “get the word out” and continue motivating people worldwide to consider the injustices embedded within our nation’s criminal justice system. After all, situations where a powerful segment of the population uses its law enforcement apparatus to abuse and oppress other segments of the population are recognizable in and common to many societies.
We recommend submitting your work and we certainly intend to participate again in the future. Peace and stay safe!
