Producer/Director/Writer – Thom E. Butler produced his first documentary short, “Nanny”, in 1975 and has been in love with the documentary form ever since.
Thom holds a BA in television and film production from the University of Arizona and an M.Div with emphasis in Social Work from Golden Gate Theological Seminary.
Over the past 35 years Thom has engineered and produced news and entertainment programming for public radio stations, and written everything from children’s plays, to print and broadcast journalism, television and radio scripts, technical manuals, screenplays, and website communications. He recently completed the documentary feature film, Raven Awakens which examines the art and life of Sonoma California sculptor Jim Callahan. The film was an official selection in the 2017 Sonoma International Film Festival and is available on DVD and BluRay through SpeakLo Media, as well as on several internet streaming services.
I consider myself a storyteller more than anything and my first interest and first steps are always to seek out both the story in, and the voice of, any person or project that I am engaged with. I believe that whether it's art, politics, relationships, or whatever... we find each other in the sharing of the stories we make and tell. Our stories are how we know and tell who we are.
