Jordan Faye Bardgett (she/they) is a multimedia artist currently pursuing her M.F.A. in Media Arts at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (2025). Jordan utilizes photography, sound, glitch, and performance to explore various themes surrounding transgender identity and childhood memory. Her work often utilizes elements of data manipulation as well as the use of personal archival elements.
Jordan has had work showcased in numerous gallery spaces such as Praxis Gallery, The Sharp Museum, and Artspace 304 as well as academic research presented at venues such as the 2nd International Tran Studies Conference at Northwestern University.
Additionally, Jordan is also a musician who plays in various noise, electronic, and folk acts in Southern Illinois as a multi-instrumentalist.
The piece plays with the symbol of a transistor is drawn onto each film loop along with the word “transistor” written across all 3 film loops alongside an autotuned phrasing. This plays with the idea of what I call “transisting” or resistance from trans folks like myself in the face of persecution from governments, religious groups, and all those who wish to erase our existence. The play on words between gender and electrical circuitry also conjures a certain energy, like the force of an electrostatic discharge which may power such cultural resistance.
