Transfiguration

Video is dedicated to empower women who survived violence in night clubs of Tbilisi, Georgia. As the beginning of 2023 has been memorable with unfortunate incidents of rape in dark rooms.

My work visualises what happens inside a woman after surviving Trauma.

Emotional layers, inner turmoil - is translated into symbolic narrative and transformed into images, movement.
Anxiety and euphoria of inner battle continues until it reaches catharsis, rebirth as a new person.

Video is celebration of light after darkness, inner strength and its aim is to concentrate on survival rather than pity.

Director Biography - Ani Lukhava

Ani Lukhava is 33 year old, debutant filmmaker with feminist directorial vision, transposing her first steps in filmmaking. Recently she is working as a documentary filmmaker at Georgian Public Broadcasting.

She has been studying documentary filmmaking in Vienna, Austria with financial support of European Commission through program
"South Caucasus a part of Europe". She also, undertook some filmmaking courses in Krakow, Poland at "Krakow film academy" and worked as a volunteer in New York City at Winter Film awards 2021.

Ani is a founder of studio VERTIGO receiving grants from Ministry of Culture Georgia and Women's fund in Georgia.

Director Statement

My directorial vision is centred around female characters, their survival and strength. I think, most of feminist films are concentreted to show effects of violation on women rather than underlining mindset of warrior, surviver and an individual with power to heal despite of gender.
