JATO EHIJATOR is an award-winning filmmaker based in South Africa. He entered the film world almost two decades at OGD Pictures in Nigeria focusing on production management. His debut feature film, King of Shitta (2013), highlighted key social issues prominent in a Lagos' ghetto. Upon relocating to South Africa in 2014, he worked for INET Media as a Creative Director, then moved to Fiesta Records to produce a reality TV show (Make You a Star).
Working with an NGO, he produced a moving documentary (Walking the Path) telling the story of people living with disabilities in South Africa. Another project close to his heart was producing a short film (Dunoon) highlighting issues of domestic violence and child abuse within Cape Town.
In 2018, Jato directed a high-energy feature film (SA Girl), of a young Nigerian woman who heads to South Africa at the invitation of someone she met on social media. This ambitious Director produced Zee and Trafficked—Africa in 2019. The short film Zee follows the incredible journey of a young South African woman, as she struggles to overcome an abusive relationship and accept her HIV status. Trafficked—Africa has given Jato a platform to present the global challenge of human trafficking from a uniquely African perspective.
Jato is tapping into a niche market by blending elements from western and southern Africa with cutting-edge cinematography; sharing African stories with the world in a way that is uniquely African.
