Toilette

Saturday evening. Inside a city apartment two girls kill time. NICO fights boredom by constantly holding her smartphone in his hand, we see her glued to the screen even while she relieves herself in the bathroom; EMMA has more difficulties, she plays chess alone without particular interest, she drinks wine. Observing Nico she begins to fantasize and finds herself catapulted into a rigorously French scenario, her thoughts follow in the wake of the Nouvelle Vague. Nico brings her back to reality with a question: "Shall we go out?". Emma answers the question in the affirmative, she only adds that she needs to go to the bathroom for a moment. In there she finds herself prey to an aesthetic psychosis, and what should have been a moment becomes something more. After shaving with crazy attention and washing, she observes herself satisfied in the mirror and suddenly a thought of death assails her. Nonetheless she gives herself time to finish her toilette and leaves the bathroom. She parades like a model in the corridor leading to the living room. There, sitting on the sofa, she finds an elderly woman holding a Barbie in her hands, and a little girl playing with her. Paralyzed, Emma observes the scene, the little girl looks back at her.
