Joe Haege spent was raised in the Chicago suburbs, where the highlights were being a fat kid into go-karts that ended up, post-surgery, in a studdy hall with the punk kids. He quickly fell for dreaming of a future life being a broke musician instead of being a successful all-American businessman. One could blame that on Bukowski, PJ Harvey and Dinosaur Jr.
After a decade of self-taught musicianship and DIY ethos, his band, 31Knots, began to get bored touring and playing Math Rock in the stare-at-the-ground fashion. Haege was all too willing to begin creating theatrics to introduce to their live show, helping them gain a cult following in Europe in the 2000’s. After playing in several other bands (Menomena, Dodos & Tu Fawning) he began to meet filmmakers in his adopted hometown of Portland, which had him landing roles in small arty films made by great people.
For Haege, getting into film solidified another true love of Acting. From then on, he’s referred to loving music and acting like “loving heroin and cocaine; The drugs feel good, but they take all of your time, money and will to do other things.”
After a 5 year stint of running a recording studio in Leipzig Germany with a good friend, Haege returned stateside, NYC to be exact, to transition into doing sound for film and video…just in time for a little thing called Covid 19.
After ending up in Boise, he thought it was time to step away from art and attempt to start a business with his partner. Then the business flooded a year and a half in. Art was back on the table.
Before jumping into a new job as the Director of Operations for the Idaho Film Society, Haege wanted to begin to round out his experience by writing and directing his own short film, for no other reason than to completely ensure that he will remain broke and hopelessly addicted to art for the rest of his life.
I made this film to see what it is I truly love about story telling and character development...sort of. I mainly did it to have a fun and creative way to hang out with friends, new and old.
