Always employing a majority-female crew, Mary Ann Pianka tells stories by women, about women, for everyone. She grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, earned her BFA from Syracuse University, and has spent the subsequent time in Los Angeles working on every film set that would have her. After years of producing her own work and her friends' work, she is making her long-awaited Directorial debut. With gratitude she sincerely hopes you enjoy this piece.
'To You' is a short film about the power and fortitude of the female spirit. As we ricochet through life finding our truth can be as difficult as standing in it. And with love available in all shapes and sizes, we can never really understand how it has impacted us until it's all over. This story follows Carey as she comes to terms with how she loves, who she is, and who she wants to be.
This short also serves as a 'proof of concept' for the feature I'm shooting, based on my award winning play 'The Emotional Immune System.' The story is composed of a series of short films. Each one focuses on a different type of relationship and the profundity that happens in the microcosm of intimacy between two people.
