Director Statement

As the director of "To the Children I Once Loved," I am honored to share with you the story of a 15-year-old deaf boy who must endure the cruelty of his delusional mother. Our film aims to portray this harrowing story through the perspective of the deaf child, which proved to be a unique and challenging task. We spent months planning and researching the intricacies of deafness, the nuances of sign language, and the complexities of portraying the world without sound. We were committed to authentically representing the deaf community, and we worked with deaf consultants to ensure that we were accurate and respectful in our portrayal. Our team was passionate about bringing this story to life, and we employed various techniques such as color grading, sound design, and production design to effectively convey the deaf child's point of view. The use of silence and stillness in the film was particularly impactful in highlighting the isolation and helplessness of the child in his desperate situation. This film would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of our dedicated cast and crew, who worked tirelessly to bring our vision to fruition. We are thrilled to share this story with audiences, and we hope that it will inspire empathy, understanding, and change.
