This film is adapted from a true story, telling the story of the protagonist, Xiaomei, who went to the big city from her hometown to work hard. This film attempts to present the living state and inner struggle of a woman living alone in the contemporary Chinese context from the perspective of Xiaomei. At the same time, the director also hopes to use the language of film to open a dialogue: what is real freedom?

After 2000, China began to gradually incorporate gender issues into sociological research, and more and more women in China realized the awakening of self-awareness.

The director tries to discuss the social issues of the characters in the film in terms of employment, freedom, marriage and family. Xiaomei in the film is one of the new free women in such an era, she is eager to be independent and to survive.

The director is a person who has lived alone for decades, empathizes with the concept of living alone and has his own unique understanding. The director tries to explain the work content and life attitude of a few women from a field that most people are not familiar with, presenting a living state in the contemporary Chinese context. But the work she depends on is not recognized by society. The contradictions and conflicts between the pressure of the environment and the self-awareness are also constantly displayed in her rich inner world.

This film uses documentary; pseudo-documentary; and choreographing three different mixed experimental techniques to present the story. Through Xiaomei's actual starring and co-writing, I hope this film will become the outlet of Xiaomei's emotions. The audience listens to a deep monologue with the director.
