Angela Ruiz is an artist from South Texas whose trying to break into animation and directing. She has two years of experience in graphic design and marketing as well as five years working at the University of Texas at the Rio Grande Valley.
Creating “Time of Dissonance” was like climbing a mountain, some steps led me closer to my goal and other times I fell between the cracks, descending into a dark pit. However, I always pushed myself to overcome my obstacles. No matter what, I trekked forward because I wanted to yell at the top of the mountain. I wanted the world to know that I am capable because executives won’t champion the directorial work of minority women. I am championing for myself so I can break barriers for other girls like me.
I directed 12 animators, 3 colorists, 1 background artist, and 1 compositor from all around the world without leaving Texas. I used social media to recruit my team. I not only provided direction but also storyboards, character sheets, backgrounds, lyrics, and color design.
The music was created by my best friend, Sandra Singlaterry, who lives in Austin, Israeli cellist Yoed Nir, and British drummer and remixer Alex Genessee.
"Time of Dissonance" is not a fully completed project. There is so much to tell and yet creating an anime is expensive. I hope in the future people can recognize the work and its meaning. It's about two different people coming together during a turbulent time.
