Lex is Belize’s Hottest Musical Artist, finally getting his due after years of hard work. His big payday is doing the Political Rally rounds for the leading Political Party of the day, as they parlay his popularity into votes for the upcoming national election. After one of the rallies, as has become customary, the minister’s right hand man and Lex’s handler, Darren, tries to use Lex to pick up women and party. After trying to fight it, he is surprised by some unexpected guests and they all get swept into Darren’s plan. It’s time to eat: what could possibly go wrong?

Carlo Habet is a budding Belizean film maker with an extensive background blazing a local trail in music videos and TV advertisements. Widely regarded as the country’s foremost videographer, Carlo was only cutting his teeth until he would be ready for his dream of proper film-making. Since childhood he has been fascinated with the medium of film and its ability to evoke emotion. His dream has been to put Belize on his digital video canvas to share with his countrymen and the world at large. Time Fu Eat (2019) is his first foray into film and while it was made to be entertaining and socially aware, it was primarily made to be uniquely Belizean.
Despite the increased presence of Belize in North American film and television, the country continues to lack representation in cinema centering the lives of contemporary Belizeans. Time Fu Eat is a project intended to meet that gap in cinema, portraying a typical Friday night among Belizean millenials. Co-written by my cousin André Habet and I over three months’ worth of Skype sessions, Time Fu Eat is a distillation of our shared and contending frustrations with the present state of life in the country’s commercial capital Belize City. At its core are conversations that illustrate the ways in which politics infringes on the lives of all the characters regardless of their station in life. At a time when apathy and indifference have come to be the affective norms of this small Caribbean country, Time Fu Eat opens the conversation to address political corruption as well as the violence such corruption facilitates and protects.
