Writer Biography

JULIE E. KNELL has spent her life in the entertainment industry from 6 years in NY, another 6+ LA   starting with her first love, the Theatre.  Playing the Lion to Androcles her first role at 12, then completely hooked - playing a racuous Fairy Godmother - when she got her first big audience laugh.  Ever since then, creating laughter and inspiration has been her calling.  4 years of Theatrical Scholarship in Texas deepened her as a performer and in production.
It was when producing theatre after graduation in Texas as well as acting in shows throughout the state working with her playwright colleague, writing began to call to her.  New York seemed natural to be next!
Tapped to be in the esteemed Leadership Program at The New York Actors Institute, she spent 2 years in the Acting Master Class and Leadership Program learning to facilitate/certify to Co-Lead the Mastery of Self-Expression workshop.  There she had the priviledge of working with classmates like Lisa Bonet, Academy Award Winner - Fisher Stevens (The Cove), Tony Nominee - Patrick Breen (Next Fall), Academy Award Winner - Marisa Tomei, Ted Danson and many others with now renown Paramount Senior VP of Comedy Development & Exec. Producer (Web Series: Whole Day Down), Dan Fauci.
Television and how to make it a better place to tell-a-vision has always been a passion of hers.  She received favorable feedback on her first two TV specs for MASH and STAR TREK, The Next Generation.  Falling in love with the Pacific NorthWest, she relocated from LA and started writing plays in Seattle (The Office of Christ), screenplays (Disturbance in the Field) and TV specs ("Mad About You").

Stumbling upon a biography of behind the scenes of I Love Lucy with the lives of Desi Arnez and Lucille Ball sparked something.  Seeing Billy Crystal's Mr. Saturday Night film, the opening 10 minutes was an absolute inspiration and actually birthed TILL THERE WAS YOU as a TV Pilot. Always fascinated with the great screwball films of the 30's and 40's, setting the show in the 1950's with a Capra-esque flair seemed ideal.

TILL became an award-winning comedy script as a national Semi-Finalist with SCRIPTAPALOOZA and Quarter-Finalist with NEXTV's Comedy Competition.  Rave reviews from the industry in LA were a good reason to move forward with it and a major TV Producer asked to see it.   Fall 2012 brought a full cast together in Portland for an informal private reading which inspired feedback about, "this should be a play!".

You are witnessing it evolve with the Staged Reading for the Fertile Ground Festival as it flourishes into the next stage, a full-length play is possible, a musical also in consideration.

Founder and CEO of the WriterinAction online Modular Training series for writer success - Julie gives back to others on a regular basis through it and her Master Life Coaching business.  Her number one Life Value = Passion, her Favorite Word ... Possibility.

Writer Statement

I believe that everyone should have their dream. I believe it is there for a reason - I call it the Seed Vision. And, when listened to ... you can make an enormous difference on the planet. That - is why I write. Also, b/c I cannot - NOT write! LOL

This piece is one of my proudest! It began long ago as completely different entity. I thought when the Senior VP of Paramount Comedy thought it was only mediocre - "he's right, it could be better!" It wasn't up to the standard I like to produce.

Then, one day out of the blue an entirely NEW inspiration to take it a different direction took place - it made it ALL make sense to me then, how to do it, what to craft it with and the writing then became effortless. (yay)

I am absolutely in love with this script and every single one of the characters, even the smallest one... because they are full fledged on their own even if they only appear for a moment on the page.
