Tick Boxes
'Tick Boxes' gives a voice to members of Sheffield's Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities as they organise to support themselves and each other during the COVID-19 pandemic. After years of being starved of resources and used simply as 'Tick Boxes', these diverse Sheffield BAME groups demonstrate remarkable creativity and solidarity in their efforts to protect the most vulnerable members of our community.

Iulia is an aspiring Director with a passion for compelling storytelling that has a social impact, raising awareness and empowering underrepresented people. Prior to Tick Boxes, she has Written and Directed "Future For Our Chlidren", made about and in collaboration with a refugee school in Beqaa Valley, Lebanon. She has recently won an RTS award with this film. Just before FFOC, she also Directed a docu-short about a Kinderstransport survivor which has spent her entire life helping and fighting for UK asylum seekers. This film was screened in Beirut by the British Council, as well as selected by the Showroom Shorts in Sheffield. Most recently, apart from working on the Seldom Heard Communities docu-series, of which Tick Boxes is a part of, she has also been volunteering as a content creator for RAAH.fest, an online festival militating for refugees and asylum seeker rights.
"Making Tick Boxes was such an eye-opening experience. I can almost call it a "call to action", as I was shamefully unaware of the social injustices that the BAMER communities have suffered for decades in the UK and beyond. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, it shone a spotlight on these issues. Meeting the extraordinary leaders in Sheffield that have single-handedly and without any funding come together to make a change in Sheffield has truly left me speechless. I want to help amplify their voices and get their message further."
