Through the Wardrobe (HoloLens mixed reality installation)

Come explore a wardrobe where the possibilities of gender are endless. Via a mixed reality headset, you are invited to touch and explore items that allow you to play with gender expression.

As most clothes are gendered 'male' or 'female', what do you do if you're genderqueer - that is, you're not only male or female? Through the Wardrobe is an installation where you're led by your own curiosity to explore your own creativity in your gender expression. Via a mixed reality (MR) headset, you are invited to dress up and explore the stories of a handful of British genderqueer voices. Interacting with clothing and familiar bedroom furniture activates in-headset mixed reality animations and audio that opens up possibilities of expressing your gender beyond binaries.

Director Biography - Rob Eagle

Spanning documentary film, audio and virtual reality, my recent work combines elements of non-fiction storytelling, immersive theatre and interactive art installation. I am currently doing a PhD, funded by the AHRC (Arts & Humanities Research Council), at the University of the West of England examining the use of interactive and immersive technology in representing genderqueer experiences. Through the Wardrobe is an output of my research-led PhD. Twitter: @Rob_Eagle_ https://www.dcrc.org.uk/people/rob-eagle
