Director Statement

Three Tales of Sketch is a 13 ½ sketch comedy collective. Set in the present, inspired by Canadian and American sketch comedy troupes of both past and present, we explore three unique, absurd, and unexpected skits. Through concept, character and situation, each sketch brings an offbeat comical approach to human behaviour, a much-needed antidote to times of criticism, hypocrisy and uncertainty.

Ridiculous, cinematic, and grounded in the relatable feelings of awkward moments, confusion and doubt, Three Tales of Sketch pays homage to Canadian Producer, Lorne Michaels’ The Kids in the Hall and Saturday Night Live. Writers and actors such as David Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney, Andy Samberg, Kristen Wiig, and Tim Robinson capture the overall essence of Three Tales of Sketch.

People, circumstances, and… people are the most influential for me as a screenwriter. Minor things that happen in everyday life can be the catalyst for massive inspiration. Spoken word + obscure circumstances x escalation = equation for a sketch opportunity. After hearing certain words or witnessing odd or awkward moments in my day-to-day life, I ask the question: Okay, what would make this situation even more ridiculous?

The visual style is comedic and light, the pacing fast. Told in three acts and transitioned with fun, energetic typography headings to introduce each new sketch. Three Tales of Sketch is timeless, offering multiple series of commentary on the foibles of society from familiar characters to resurface again and again. My goal as a director is to inspire, make people think and ultimately laugh.
