Director Statement

Through my film “Those Who Survived the Heat” I wanted to use the theme of loitering. As for me it is one of those activities that a person can do with out being aware of the process itself, A person would only walk and roams the streets full of thoughts, listening to music, or without a plan other than wasting his time. He might be walking through streets already known or discovering new roads which would lead him to an interesting adventure.
I like to refer to memories as “The Heat” as I always feel that despite of its importance and that it constitutes us as people and imbues us with a soft side in our personalities. However, it can be a severe obstacle and an impenetrable wall for some people as they try to mover forward and start a different chapter of life. Sometimes our memories link us to people, places, and smells, and it is difficult for a person to imagine his life outside those borders. We must be free from it so that we do not miss out a different life that we may not achieve it because we love life, we are familiar with.
By merging the place, which is a material thing, and memories which are purely moral thing. I preferred to make a film that go through mixed feeling between joy and sadness that afflicts a person while trying to escape it, without giving several keys to the spectator. And the reason is that I wanted to let each person react to his own story, have his own personal perception of the film. I even muted the dialogue in one of the previous drafts of the film to emphasize this idea. My only goal is to let the spectator get this confusion and wonder after watching the film.
