Director Statement

As a filmmaker, I chose to Write and Direct “This Year’s Interns” because I have always been drawn to stories that blend humor with genuine human experiences. “This Year’s Interns” reflects my passion for capturing the relatable chaos of youth and ambition in the workplace. Set against a bustling marketing firm backdrop, the film follows Aaron, a friendly and easygoing intern, and Jayden, his arrogant and fiercely competitive coworker, as they navigate their last week of internship with one job position up for grabs.
This film celebrates the highs and lows of the workplace and internships, an experience that many college students face as they step into the professional world. Through Aaron and Jayden's rivalry, I wanted to explore the theme of ambition and the lengths we go to secure our dreams. The unfolded comedic mishaps serve to entertain and highlight the absurdity of workplace dynamics and the importance of camaraderie, even amidst competition.
Visually, I aimed to create an atmosphere that mirrored the mundane day-to-day office workplace with the naivety of the characters' youthful spirit. The film reflects the uncertainty of job security, blending moments of hilarity with fierce coworker dynamics. I hope that audiences will not only find joy in the comedy but also recognize the universal struggle of finding one’s place in a competitive environment.
“This Year’s Interns” is inspired by my own experiences in competitive work environments, where I learned that laughter truly is the best medicine in stressful situations. I am excited to share this journey with viewers and remind them that while the path to success may be filled with challenges, it is also paved with opportunities and unexpected friendships along the way.
