Brazilian filmmaker Marcelo Lordello (1981), who was born in Brasília-DC, has lived and worked in Recife since 2001.
His work seeks to transcend classical narrative forms by immersing itself in its characters and their conflicts, describing the sensory-emotional-reflective experiences of their journeys of self-discovery. His films are based around narratives that explore the concept of Otherness in which the characters transform themselves through their surrender to and understanding of the Other. As a dramatic background, his films tell of the idiosyncrasies of Brazil, exposing the Power Relations in the country’s contemporary society.
His films have been shown at major international festivals such as Rotterdam (Hivos Tiger Awards), New Directors/New Film (MOMA & Film Society of Lincoln Center), BFI London, Munich, BAFICI, Jeonju, Indie Lisbon and San Francisco IFF, among others.
In parallel with his directing career he is a DOP of a number of Brazilian filmmakers, in order to expand his aesthetic horizons and dialogue with other views of the world and of cinema.
Since 2005 he has, alongside Tião and Leonardo Lacca, been part of Trincheira Filmes, an audiovisual production company which has taken part in several international festivals, and won more than 60 national and international awards.
"They will com back" comes from a personal and intimate will to be freed from limits and constraints of a conventional way of living, fearful and unaware of the others, typical of Brazilian emerging medium class. Starting from a fable-like narrative construction, based upon characters and situations with strong ties to realism, I try to convey a process of appreciation of the character as an individual during this road-trip-home journey, facing her up with "invisible prisons" one figures out lives. Through cinematic languages choices that prioritize the confluence of encounters, time dilation and empowering character-audience relationships, the film's proposal is of one based on the Other, proposing gentle discoveries and understandings of the singularities, links and affections between human beings.
