Daniel de la Cruz, a 23-year-old filmmaker from Guimbal, Iloilo, commenced his cinematic journey in 2019 with his membership in the Guimbal Ifilm Society, a pioneering community-based filmmaking collective in the Philippines. Through this platform, Daniel honed his craft, producing independent films that struck a chord with his community. His work gained recognition on both local and national stages, notably earning him the Grand Prize and Best Work for Children at the esteemed 35th Cultural Center of the Philippines Gawad Alternatibo.

Graduating with top honors as a Magna Cum Laude in Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting, Daniel now channels his fervent passion for filmmaking while concurrently dedicating himself to serving children in need through an esteemed organization. Director Statement

In my journey as a filmmaker, I've found myself drawn to the intricacies of human stories, particularly those of women and children, whose voices often echo in the margins of society. Growing up in Guimbal, Iloilo, where filmmaking is not just an art form but a cherished part of our cultural identity, I've been inspired to use my craft as a vehicle for social commentary and change.

As a member of the Guimbal Ifilm Society, I've been fortunate to be part of a community that values storytelling as a means of empowerment and understanding. Through our collaborative efforts, we've brought tales of resilience, struggle, and hope to audiences both near and far.

My academic background in broadcasting has provided me with a solid foundation, but it's my experiences in the field and my dedication to amplifying the voices of the marginalized that truly drive my work. Whether through the lens of dark comedy or the language of semiotics, I aim to challenge perceptions, provoke thought, and spark conversations that lead to tangible progress.

I believe that art has the power to disrupt, to discomfort, and ultimately, to inspire change. It is my mission as a filmmaker to harness that power responsibly, to shine a light on the issues that matter most, and to advocate for a more inclusive and compassionate world.
