The soothsayer'sbags
This film links me to Wibon, the winye village, and to the Cévennes from where I write to ward off oblivion.
The seas that separate them, those of water and sand, form strange obstacles to the memory that binds men and remains deaf to the echoes of distant peoples, but also to our own history.
I met Siaka in 2011, at the funeral of the soothsayer Pangatié. Siaka danced with the diviners from her community who had come to the village of Nanou to enthrone the son of the deceased diviner. When I left he invited me to come see him in his own village in Wibon. I found him there a few days later. I then asked him about his life as a "vogun", as a clairvoyant and about his own initiation. Since then I have been coming back to listen and consult him.
