Lucky Marvel (he/they) is an independent filmmaker, troublemaker, and video artist based in Philadelphia. His work has been screened at the Chicago Underground Film Festival, Lower East Side Film Festival, Vox Populi Gallery, Wicked Queer: Boston's LGBTQ+ Film Festival, and Film Diary NYC.
His film, These F**king Kids, won the Best Documentary Short Award at the Chicago Underground Film Festival in 2024.
Lucky dances between documentary and experimental modes of filmmaking. Through frenetic editing and fragmented characters, his films fixate on the colorful contradictions and the spectacular mundanity of ~ late-stage capitalist blues ~.
In-progress works include two feature-length documentaries: Florida! Ya Kill Me!, a Dragumentary following Nana Schewitz, a 96 year old Jewish drag queen from Berlin, seeking retirement paradise in the sunshine state; and Arnold’s Way, a portrait of Arnold Kauffman, the eccentric leader of a raw vegan community in Lansdale, PA.
