Director Biography - Max Lincoln

I am a visual director with a love of heightened colour and style.

My 50’s dystopian cooking short THYME was shot on 16mm and won BEST STUDENT SHORT at the West Virginia FILMMakers Festival. WOODS, a cyclical revenge narrative, was popular online featuring on 1.4 and as the Daily Pick on Film Shortage. WINNING MARGE, a twisted breakup film, was selected to feature on Channel 4’s Random Acts (2018) alongside premiering at the BAFTA / OSCAR / BIFA accredited Foyle Film Festival (2017).

PINEAPPLE, which is at the start of its festival journey, was described as “entirely captivating. Funny, sad, beautifully performed and shot” by Stephen Fry. PINEAPPLE was part-funded by Stefan Allesch-Taylor CBE and through Kickstarter and is about jealousy within a relationship set to the backdrop of the art world.

Alongside directing, I have spent the past 7+ years working as an Art Director and in the art department for features, shorts and commercials. With clients including The Arctic Monkeys, Chemical Brothers, Samsung, Virgin Media & Gap.

Director Statement

Created as part of the Straight 8 2019 competition. The rules are one cartridge of super 8mm cine film with no editing, no re-takes, no grade, no post-production. The soundtrack was created without ever watching the film! The film screened as part of the Top 25 London Premiere.

My short was inspired by me wanting to regain my uniqueness after discovering there was a famous porn director who shared my name (and topped the Google Rankings). And of course Highlander!
