L'Avaro (The miser)
IT IS THE FIRST SINGLE EXTRACT FROM THE "CEPPECÀT" ALBUM THAT CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF CAREER OF THE PUGLIA BAND
The selfishness of feelings towards the weakest and the different, dictated by the fear and propaganda of some political factions, takes shape in the capital vice of Avarice, the absolute protagonist of a piece with a Mediterranean flavor.
The Avaro is the single forerunner of "Ceppeccàt", the concept album of the SOSSIO BANDA whose main theme is the vice linked to the seven deadly sins.
The distressed by this vice is a strange and ambiguous character, who perpetually experiences a stormy inner conflict, divided between the joy and the desire to possess and the fear of losing himself, wealth accumulates. He often leads a miserable life and then dies as a rich man and lets the heirs enjoy his possessions; he always postpones tomorrow what he could do and spend today, since for him detachment from one's own things is synonymous with suffering and malaise.
Death is by far the most dramatic and devastating moment of its existence: the definitive separation from the self, but it would be at the same time the point of maximum freedom and joy in which the chains of selfishness and fear are broken; "If only he knew that tomorrow there is no", he would make all his dreams come true.
Paradoxically, the miser is not always a rich and wealthy person; often belonging to the lower-middle class who, afflicted by the anguish of losing, as well as riches, also identity, freedom, work and rights, mistakenly thinks that "not giving" to others, also in terms of affection and feelings, means in some way protecting oneself and defend ourselves, and it is on this that much political propaganda in recent years has leveraged to broaden its consensus.
The emblematic title, which in the Bari dialect means "What a pity", has a double meaning: "what a pity" for man, "there is a pity" for man. It is a very varied, sparkling album, in which band and Balkan sounds, is opposed to melancholic settings, dictated by the naked and raw sound of a double bass and tammurriate and tarante with an unbridled and pressing rhythm, communicating with delicate melodies with a French taste.
Ceppeccàt analyzes modern man through his sins, highlighting all the contradictions that make him and the significant disastrous consequences that arise when the economic, political and social choices of the human race are dictated and driven by vices.
