The first Wave
The film The First Wave is set in an unspecified but tangibly near future. Humanity faces the challenge of saving the planet and is therefore planning to relocate about half of the world’s population to Mars. This ambitious project aims not only to relieve Earth but also to initiate the exploration of new habitats and mark a fresh beginning for humankind.
Against this vast backdrop, the short film tells an intimate love story that unfolds during the landing of this first wave on Earth.
The short film was written and shot within one month in 2024 in Bremen (Germany) and its surrounding areas.

Jannik Weinholtz, originally from Berlin and now living in Bremen, came to film through photography. Since he was 14 years old, he has been passionate about storytelling through moving images. Professionally, he works mainly on documentaries and commercial films for various companies, while privately, he creates short films and other projects.
I had to face the fact that I was getting older, and by 2024, with my birthday just around the corner, I felt I hadn’t made enough short films for my liking. So, I managed to gather this amazing team within a week and ultimately brought this film from concept to completion in just over three weeks. And all of this—plus the wonderful people I got to meet through this project—left me feeling creatively fulfilled and genuinely happy. Here it is!
