Director Statement

Making this documentary was truly an accidental opportunity for me. After graduation, I, like most people, chose a stable job. However, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 gave me an opportunity to think about my life. I began to ask myself, is my current life what I really want? What do I really want to do? I started to have the idea of making a documentary, as seven years ago, I filmed a person who had a dream of helping more poor people after becoming wealthy. Through my communication with him, I learned that he had been developing in Shenzhen after graduation, searching for opportunities to get rich. So, I decided to continue filming his life and dream, to see if he was influenced by society and if his original intention had changed. At the same time, I also wanted to capture these memories at this special time period.

However, during the filming process, I encountered many difficulties and setbacks. I was once lost in confusion because I saw my own shadow. This made me feel very frustrated and painful because I realized that I had been avoiding reality. I didn't know what to do after the filming was over, as this documentary was like a mirror, reflecting not only my life but also the challenges that we all face in this era of rapid development. We seem to be pushed forward but don't know where our destination is.

After struggling and transforming for a while, I finally let go of my past. I began to realize that living the way I want and pursuing things I love is enough. This documentary is an exploration of life's other possibilities for myself and others, and an opportunity for me to better understand myself and my dreams.
