The carefree or the heedless

One morning, over coffee, Tom and Laurent, two brothers in their forties, argue about Tom's reckless outings during the Covid pandemic. Laurent, on the other hand, is diabetic and must strictly stay home to avoid getting sick.
Tom does not care and continues his outings, until one day his brother tries to reach him by phone without success, finally leaving him a disturbing message before falling into a coma.
A few days later, the emergency room doctor tells Tom that Laurent is in a very advanced stage of Covid's disease and that he could have died if they had waited one more day to hospitalize him.
