The Jar
In a remote village, a Father sends his children out to forage for bamboo shoots in the morning during which his son discovers a mysterious object that will alter the course of his life.
Based on an uncle’s memory of an event that occurred in the year 1970 in Banan, Cambodia.
Epilogue
In 1979, nine years after Buntith had this strange, inexplicable experience and immediately after the surrender of the Khmer Rouge’s brutal regime, he witnessed the sight of perishing bodies piled in mounds at the foot of Mount Banan.
This film is dedicated to those whose hearts are still scarred from unbeknownst grief.

Via Nuon was born in Cambodia. He came to the U.S. in 1975, part of the first Cambodian diaspora. His parents escaped on the eve before the Khmer Rouge regime overtook the country. He grew up in Richmond, VA. At Virginia Commonwealth University in the early 90's while studying the History of Narrative Film he developed a deep appreciation of Cinema.
