The Hunted

Sydney is an aging criminal with a violent past and vicious temper. We enter as he waits, secluded in a dingy hotel room, to receive the consequences for a recent outburst. Sydney receives an ominous message, in the form of a small package and photo. It offers an ultimatum: Kill yourself by the time the sun comes up, and your family will be spared from the repercussions. Sydney now has one night to face his guilt and find some sense of purpose from his life and death. Enter the longest night of Sydney's life, as sanity quickly deserts him, and visions and nightmares become increasingly real.

Director Biography - Alec Baer

ALEC BAER is a young filmmaker from Southern California. Currently enrolled at the Masters program at Loyola Marymount University, he graduated with a BA in film production from San Francisco State University. In the past he worked for the PAC-12 Network, and has worked on a number of projects, including directing shorts Finding Felix and The Afterglow.

Director Statement

The Hunted is a film about coming to terms. Sydney’s situation forces him to take stock of his life and his past. What is really important to him. What has led him to where he is. What the point of it all will be when he is gone. I wanted to paint a picture of a character who is not traditionally good or bad, just human. He fits into the film noir genre of hard-boiled, cynical protagonists who are confronted by their sense of humanity, whether they expect it or not. Sydney’s dilemma drives him to the brink of madness, but in the end he has to sit back and think that his choices have put him here. It is his job alone to tie up his loose ends.
