Submissions:
Your short film must be animated in the style of one of the categories below:
- 2D Digital Professional/Student
- CG Professional/Student
- Experimental Professional/Student
- Stop motion Professional/Student
- Traditional Professional/Student
Format of Submission:
- Video format: QuickTime .mov or.mp4
- Compression: H264
- Resolution: 1920x1080 (1080p)
- The original aspect ratio of the video format can be standard (4:3) or widescreen (16:9)
- When you enter the festival on FilmFreeway, please provide us with a direct downloadable link to your submission file.
- Your file must be named the same as the "Film Title" and the appropriate extension. If your short animation is not named properly, it will not be considered for the World Animation Celebration festival no exceptions.
Submission Rules:
- Student category: in order to submit your film into the student category, you must be a current student enrolled in a college, school, university or have graduated within the last 12 months.
- Professional category: anyone that's not currently enrolled in college, school or university.
- The film must be uploaded by the author, or someone authorized by the author, to a public video sharing website of the participant’s choice (ex. Vimeo, YouTube), according to the technical specifications of the website itself and to the following orientations:
- By submitting your entry, you are agreeing to the following: 1) authorize the non-exclusive and free of charge exhibition of the submitted work in every environment related to the World Animation Celebration festival, including its online social networks. This authorization may be extended, beyond the festival website and social networks, to other transmissions and/or download systems belonging to enterprises that may be associated to the festival for up to one year after the festival.
Number of submissions per entry
Each entrant may submit a maximum of 4 (four) works.
Short-film length
30 seconds to 12 minutes in length.

There is a fee for each film submitted to The World Animation Celebration 2017. Please see specific categories and entry fees.
Judges

Location & Time for Screenings
The event will take place for two days on Saturday, September 30th & Sunday, Oct 1st at Sony Pictures Animation, 9050 W. Washington Blvd. Culver City, California.
Redeeming Awards:
Winners will be announced Sunday, October 1st, 2017 during the festival closing. Festival entrants that are not present during the festival, will be contacted via email within one week for distribution of festival prize. All winners are subject to verification at the sole discretion of The World Animation Celebration.
You must have obtained all the necessary rights (including music rights), consents, authorizations and licenses covering the film. There must not be pending or anticipated litigation regarding the film. You may have to provide prove of rights.
OFFICIAL RULES OF PARTICIPATION:
All federal, state and local laws apply. By participating, entrants agree (i) to be bound by these Official Rules, including all eligibility requirements, and (ii) to be bound by the decisions of The World Animation Celebration, including the interpretations of these Official Rules, which are final and binding in all matters relating to the festival. The World Animation Celebration Festival, Sony Animation and/or its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, directors, officers and distributors and other prize suppliers is not responsible for (i) lost, late, misdirected, deceptive, damaged, garbled or illegible entries; (ii) error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operations or transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of entry materials, or for technical, network, telephone equipment, electronic, computer, hardware or software malfunctions of any kind, or inaccurate transmission of or failure to receive entry information by The World Animation Celebration on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website or any combination thereof; or (iii) any injury or damage to entrant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participating in the festival. The World Animation Celebration reserves the right to permanently disqualify from this festival any person it believes has violated these Official Rules.
By accepting a prize, each winner irrevocably consents to the use by The World Animation Celebration or festival entities of winner's name, likeness and statements relating to the festival, without further compensation, in all worldwide marketing, promotion and publicity carried out in perpetuity by The World Animation Celebration and any of festival entities. Any information provided to the sponsor may be used to communicate with an entrant in relation to the festival or on a festival winner’s list.
RELEASES/DISCLAIMERS/INDEMNITY:
Under no circumstances, including negligence, shall The World Animation Celebration and its affiliates be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, including without limitation, property damage, personal injury and/or death, resulting from participation in the festival or acceptance, use or misuse of any prize. Notwithstanding the foregoing, in the event that the preceding release is determined by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid or void for any reason, the entrant agrees that, by entering the festival, (a) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or in connection
with the festival or any prizes awarded shall be resolved individually without resort to any form of class action; (b) any claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering the festival, but in no event
attorneys’ fees; and (c) under no circumstances will any entrant be permitted to obtain any award for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental or consequential damages and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased, other than damages for actual out-of-pocket expenses.
Entrants hereby acknowledge that the The World Animation Celebration festival entities have neither made nor are in any manner responsible or liable for any warranty, representation or guarantee, express or implied (including, but not limited to warranties of any kind concerning the appearance, safety or performance of any prize), in fact or in law, relative to any prize. Each winner shall bear all risk of loss or damage to their prize after it has been delivered to such winner via U.S. Mail, FedEx, United Parcel Service or any other shipping agent.
By entering and participating, entrant agrees to defend, indemnify and hold harmless The World Animation Celebration the festival entities from and against any and all claims, demands, liability, damages or causes of action (however named or described) losses, costs or expenses, with respect to or arising out of or related to: (i) entrant’s participation in the festival, and (ii) entrant's acceptance, use or misuse of a prize, including, without limitation, any property loss, damage, personal injury or death caused to any person(s). Winners assume all liability for any injury or damage caused or claimed to be caused, by participation in this festival or use or redemption of a prize.
APPLICABLE LAW:
The festival and these Official Rules shall be construed and governed in accordance with the substantive laws of the state of California, as distinguished from the choice of law rules. By participating, entrants agree that all issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforce ability of these Official Rules, entrant's rights and obligations, or the rights and obligations of the sponsor in connection with the festival shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the state of California, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules. By participating, entrants consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the federal, state and local courts located in Los Angeles, California.
