Director Biography - Navid Valadkhani

I was born in 1991 in Tehran and I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Construction and Master’s degree in Cinema at Tarbiat Modarres University in Iran. I have number of films in frameworks of psychoanalysis, research in human identity, cinematic characters, emotions and atmosphere creation in my resume of activity in cinema.

Director Statement

Violence against women has always existed in Iran due to old traditions and patriarchy, and we usually see this headline in the news today, and this issue can also be seen in the art and literature of the past.
In Iran, honor killings have been taking place for years, and violence against women has taken place in various ways.
This film was made as a cinema master’s thesis with subject of psychoanalysis and with guidance from Dr. Amir Hasan Nedaei, Inspired by “The Blind Owl” novel written by Sadegh Hedayat in 1936.
"The Blind Owl" is a surrealist novel that deals with violence against women.
Several films have been made from this novel so far, including Kiumars Derambakhsh's 1974 film The Blind Owl. I have tried to look at the story today in this film.
