Hayley Simmonds was born and raised in New Zealand. She is an aspiring animator in her third and final year of study at Media Design School. She has a passion for film, storytelling and snacks.
The Wild Wild Nest was a graduation team project created collectively by eight students at Media Design School in thirteen weeks. As a team we really wanted to push the boundaries of what we could achieve during this time.
The turkey is the hero of our film. His story is all about his love for his eggs and how far he will go to protect them. The Buick is the antagonist of our film and he simply loves the thrill of mowing down a turkey. Or an egg or two.
We wanted to mash together comedy and western genre. Our style and cinematography was inspired by classic western films and also Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner cartoons. The Wild Wild Nest grew into a world that we all really enjoyed. Visually, we went for a dry, hot and quite saturated look as we didn’t want our film to feel calm. Our vast desert is populated with dry plant life and massive mesas not only because it’s visually stunning but also for an uninhibited and lonely feel.
