Venice Beach, California wasn’t always sunshine, surf and skateboards like betrayed in the movie, “Lords of Dogtown” in the 70’s. At least not for a single latin mother raising five kids on her own. Jimmie Romero being the youngest always had his fair share of trouble but when it came down to choosing between running with his gang or his love for creative arts, a sacrifice had to be made and the gang lost that battle in this story. Jimmie had his first audition in a school play but didn’t get cast because he was Dyslexic; “At the time I didn’t know what it was. When I read, the third word of every sentence would flipflop with the first word.” Embarrassed and frustrated, Jimmie dove into music. As he matured, he was signed to a record deal with a major label but then the label dropped him and that nearly broke his heart. Jimmie made his second attemp in acting and after a long written and oral interview, Jimmie Romero was accepted into Lee Strasberg’s Film and Theatre in 2004. It was his fearless level of commitment to his roles that quickly drew Actress and Academy Award nominee Sally Kirkland to take him under her wing. Cast in his first short film, he was intrigued by the whole process of making films. He begin learning camera operation, editing, and screen writing. In 2005 he shot his first short film with Malcolm Ford (Harrison Ford’s Son). After the screening in the Florida Film Festival, he was cast in a short film with Al Sapienza (The Sopranos) Central Booking as well as a Discovery Channel Mini Series. By 2008 Jimmie shot his second short film which landed on the desk of Director Kevin Bray who was so impressed by his production and performance of his short that Bray cast him in a film he was directing and Romero was to go head to head with Academy Award Winner Cuba Gooding Jr. He was nicknamed by his friends, “The Renaissance Man”. Jimmie would Write, Direct and Edit Music videos, Short films and even do the music scores. “It’s not that I want to wear all these hats in projects, but if you have to wait on people, your project never gets completed.”
Jimmie is now in the early stages of production of his new Horror/Thriller full feature film.
An unhealthy love for one blinds your vision and leads you down a path far away from the ones who really care, and when you get your sight back, sometimes it's too late.
