The Water
When the birthday of Sarah Sackey reunites the estranged Sackey family in their childhood holiday home, the English beach house nestled beside the water provides the picture-perfect backdrop designed to mask their fragile familial bonds. What happens when a family brought together for the first time in five years since the death of their beloved matriarch has to address the widening gulf that exists between them?

Jude Adoasi is a British-Ghanian writer and director from London and the founder of Ayton House Pictures.
As a professional working in the creative industry, Adoasi’s past clients include Viacom and Nike. Meanwhile, as a force in the black British creative scene, his contributions to short films Squeeze, Handle With Care and the award-winning web series House Party have signposted him as one to watch.
Operating from the director’s seat and presenting his storytelling abilities to the world, Adoasi’s debut project is the first under his production company Ayton House Pictures.
“My passion for storytelling was ignited at an early age when my mother used to retell the world-renowned 'Anansi the Spider' folktale stories that she heard as a young girl in Ghana,” said Adoasi.
“Since then I have been passionate about creating stories and content that fill people with the intrigue and wonder that the 'Anansi the spider's' tales did for me.”
If we want healthy families it is essential we take the time to look at our issues and examine them. These issues are exasperated by the divide between first and second-generation immigrants, the cultural values that the parents expect the children to have but don't.
The two major themes of The Water are mental health and grief. What we often don't discuss is the impact we can have on the mental health of those around us or how the mental health of our loved ones affects how we treat and interact with them.
