The Watch

"The Watch" is a short film about blind obedience. It tells the story of a person who submits to a faceless authority and carries out their assigned tasks without questioning.

Jürgen, the 67-year-old watchman, spends his last day at work just like any other day. He works like a Swiss clock, going on his rounds through empty corridors every hour until he reaches a key switch. His task is to arrive there on time, insert the key into the lock, and turn it. Without questioning the impact of his actions, he has blindly carried out this task for 45 years.

The protagonist is driven into blind obedience by his beliefs, socialization through his authority, and fear of consequences. Without critical reflection or questioning, he follows the instructions of an authority, submits unconditionally, and relinquishes all personal responsibility.
