The Wall in the Soul
The plot of the film is set in a closeted area of Tezpur, a town on the Northern Bank of the Brahmaputra in Assam. It showcases, primarily, the life of a teen girl named Suman.
Suman is a shy, introverted and nerdy kind of girl who thinks about people’s opinion about her instead of her own choice of living the life. The other lead character in the story is Krittika, who is totally the opposite of Suman. Krittika is a bold kind of girl, who does not care for what others say or not.
Krittika is a lesbian and she has strong feelings for Suman. One day, she expressed about this to Suman, expecting a reply from her. But, unsurprisingly, Suman did not respond anything. Suman, too had internally suppressed strong feelings for Krittika.
But, she was trying to convince herself that she is
not a lesbian as she thought people will never accept her as a lesbian in the society. She convinced her innerself that she is a heterosexual/straight person.
Even her close friends taunt Krittika and pass homophobic jokes around. So, she felt a bit uncomfortable there too.
Slowly, Suman's life started taking a devastating turn. She started losing her favorite things. She lost her earphones, her favorite books, her art/sketch kit and many more. At first , she was thinking it to be some coincidence until the day when everyone disappeared from her life. She had returned from school and could not find her Mother at home.
Suman went out to the streets to search for her Mother but could not find a single person anywhere; everyone and everything had disappeared. And, suddenly, there appeared Krittika in front of her.
Suman felt the strongest for Krittika at that moment and finally, expressed her feelings to Krittika. They healed each other and had the best time of their life, together. And, suddenly, Suman returned to the day when everything in her life had turned blue.
The film tries to express the voice of the Queer People/ People of the LGBTQIA+ Community, who find it too uncomfortable and suffocating to express themselves fully in a closeted society like ours. It tries to pass the message that people from the LGBTQIA+ Community are humans too and have the equal right to live a life peacefully without any discrimination. The disappearance of things in the story symbolizes the fact that “If one doesn’t accept themselves the way they are, they start losing a part of themselves gradually”.
The film is made dialogue-less in maximum aspect to make it proper to be felt, and not only watched.
