Experiencing Interruptions?

The walking man

A man walks for 5 hours through the city of Rome, from the Imperial Fora to the mouth of the Tiber river (where Pasolini was killed). The camera follows him at a distance, spying on him secretly without ever seeing his face. Through this journey (born as a live performance for 15 spectators per day), the city of Rome opens up to the eyes of the spectator: the contrasts between the center and the periphery, between concrete and nature, between ancient history and globalization. In the cinematic translation of Boato\Danesin, the camera becomes a body-spectator, to penetrate more in the substance of the landscape.
The audiovisual rendering of the journey is the pretext for translating into cinema the very theatrical notion of "experience".

Director Biography - Giulio Boato, Lorenzo Danesin

Boato\Danesin is an Italian artistic duo composed by Giulio Boato (director, cinematographer and editor) and Lorenzo Danesin (composer, musician and sound designer). They have been collaborating since 2013 making video-art and documentaries about visual and theatre artists, such as Jan Fabre (Beyond the artist, 2015), Romeo Castellucci (Theatron, 2018) and Shiro Takatani (Between nature and technology, 2018). L’uomo che cammina is the first film they sign together, as they believe that in this particular work the sound sphere (completely re-created) is as narrative as the images. Their complementary approach to the work becomes a co-direction.

Giulio Boato (Venice, 1988) studied performing arts at the University in Venice, Bordeaux, Bologna and Paris and now lives between Italy and France, depending on the theater plays he stages and films he directs. His first documentary is a portrait of controversial artist Jan Fabre. Released in 2015 and broadcast in numerous film festivals over the world, it received the best art documentary award in Rome, the same year. Since then, Giulio Boato went on collaborating with Jan Fabre, documenting his Italian exhibitions and the 24-hour long theater play Mount Olympus (2017).
In March 2018, Giulio Boato presented at the Segal Center in New York his documentary on stage director Romeo Castellucci, awarded as best feature documentary in London and Los Angeles. At the end of the same year, he released a film about the Japanese media artist Shiro Takatani, selected in competition at FIFA International festival of films on art 2019 (Montreal).

Lorenzo Danesin (Treviso, 1988) is a composer, musician and sound designer. He studied classical guitar at the "Benedetto Marcello" Conservatory of Venice and History and Protection of Musical Cultural Heritage at the University of Padua. He composed the soundtracks, sound design and sound editing of various films, including Animata Resistenza (awarded as Best Documentary on Cinema in the Venice Classics section at the 71st Venice International Film Festival), THEATRON | Romeo Castellucci, JAN FABRE. Beyond the artist, SHIRO TAKATANI - between nature and technology. In theater, he collaborates regularly with the collective DOYOUDaDA, which he is also founded, and with Post Scriptum Company. He has worked on numerous commercials and audiovisual products for various national and international companies.
