The Void

Akshay Kumar strives for capturing raw and intricate human experiences in his films. Being raised in Vancouver, his style being heavily influenced by friends and the culture within the city he immersed himself in. From Learning photography from the age of seven taking urban architecture photos of Countries he’s visited his dedication only grew. In September of 2015 to late 2020, Akshay ran a photography business whilst studying full time in high school from grade 9 - 12 on top of collaborating with his highschool administration to act as the photographer and videographer for those years. Learning about cinema and the film industry first at Vancouver Film School spring workshop to attending Emily Carr University and studying 3 years, learning Cinema Storytelling and putting his time towards 12 indie student short films that screened in 2023 at the VIFF center. Akshay then went on to study at Langara College under an intensive directing program to further his directorial style before departing Vancouver to continue his studies and get more experience in the field of Cinema. Akshay is committed to illuminating underrepresented stories and continues to push his film styles with each project. His focus is on being a great DoP that can collaborate with a great team that sees the vision but also Akshay wants to work overseas and complete some Documentary projects in the near future.
