The Voice Of Letting Through
Which border of mine have I not let you through? The video-performance ‘The Voice Of Letting Through’ focus on two ‘loudspeaker-women’ who gather to hold a trance ceremony. The half human - half sound system figures move in space; every movement is heard, every sound is seen. The work draws a line to the trance traditional ceremonies held in Bali, Indonesia, in which those entering trance are dancing while pointing a long knife to their chests. Here the “knife” is the heavy unstable speaker, placed on the back of the neck, merges with the body and unites with it while delving into trance. What does a sense of danger allow when diving into the depths of trance? the depths of the present moment.
