The Vanishing Fishermen of Indus
Ghazi and Faqeer are young fisherman. They joined ancestors line of work, and grew up in boats. This documentary is from "Jamshoro" the last stop of Indus river in Pakistan. Palla and Rau are the traditional fish found in Jamshoro. The local fishermen say that due to industrial and agricultural effluent disposal in water, the fish have poisonous spots on body. Residents of the biggest city of Pakistan Karachi are drinking this toxic water. Moreover this contaminated water is being supplied to Hyderabad and other small cities of province Sindh.
Decrease in water levels has forced many families of fishermen to quit their occupation and become daily wagers and selling different items at the river bank and many have migrated to other parts of the country.
These fisherman are residing on river Indus bank for 200 years.
