Landslides are often conceived as natural disasters. It becomes an issue of justice when it disproportionately affects different sections of society. In the Indian state of Kerala, it disproportionately affects the Dalits (“Lower caste”), Adivasis (Tribes), and the poor. The present work engages with the spatial injustice faced by the lower caste and class people in Kerala

Director Biography - Ratheesh Mon Panampatta

In 1986, the Director was born in Manjeri, a small town in Kerala. Doctoral studies in geography were completed at SSUS Kalady in Ernakulam. Postdoctoral studies at Mumbai's International Institute of Population Sciences. From a young age, he had a strong interest in cinema and was involved in film society activities. His passion for photography and his strong social commitment influenced his decision to be a documentary filmmaker. "The Unjust and Beyond" is Dr Ratheesh Mon Panampatta's debut film, and it depicts landslide as a justice issue that needs to be addressed from a social justice standpoint.

I strongly believe that art stands for social change, and cinema, as an art form of the time, has a significant role to play in exposing the injustices faced by the underprivileged, and the art can shed light on issues that require serious attention.
